Carrie Chappell

Birmingham is my house, a shelter where I pray and curse, sing and yell. She is my light and terror, and I have loved her well and poorly, as she has me.
— Carrie Chappell

Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, Carrie Chappell is a writer interested in exploring feminine personae and the narration of lives of women as they confront a conflicting nostalgia for and injury perpetuated by Western structures of prejudice, particularly those apparent in her homeland of the U.S. American South. Some of her poems have appeared in Nashville Review, Redivider, SWIMM, and Yemassee. Her lyric and book essays have been published in The Rumpus, DIAGRAM, Fanzine, The Iowa Review, The Rupture, and Xavier Review
